Watford have made a reported €60million (£54m) offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Guedes.
Watford have signed six players so far this summer, but the £40m sale of Richarlison to Everton means they are comfortably working at a positive net spend.
The Hornets have yet to sign a direct replacement for the Brazilian however, with Gerard Deulofeu’s permanent £11m move from Barcelona their most expensive so far this summer.
With the deadline looming for Premier League clubs, Watford have sparked into action however. Reliable website CulturePSG reports that they have made an offer of just under €60m for Guedes, which would smash their current transfer record into the tiniest pieces possible.
PSG are eager to sell the player ‘to the highest bidder’, but the obstacle for any potential move will be Guedes himself. The player ‘only wants to join Valencia’ and is ‘inflexible’ in his desire, having spent last season on loan in Spain.
Watford scouted Guedes throughout the campaign, and are able to meet PSG’s demands, unlike Valencia.
CulturePSG also cite Valencian newspaper SuperDeporte, who claim that Guedes has ‘dragged his feet in training’ and ‘intends to refuse all offers from the Premier League’.
Guedes joined PSG in January 2017, rejecting interest from Manchester United as a result. But he has made just 13 appearances for PSG in all competitions in 18 months.
