Fans Are Dismayed As Tickets To See Michelle Obama At Southbank Centre Are Sold Out

Some tickets have been put up on resale sites for more than £2,000

FANS OF former US first lady Michelle Obama have been left disappointed this morning after tickets to see her in conversation with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie sold out.

To make matters worse for those hoping to hear Obama impart her words of wisdom in person at the Southbank Centre in December, tickets for the event were discovered being resold at more than £2,000 online.

Becoming: An Evening with Michelle Obama on December 3 is her only UK event, and each ticket holder will receive a copy of her memoir, Becoming.

Those who missed out on tickets to the heavily oversubscribed event took to social media to vent their frustration.

One tweeted: “Southbank Centre how come your members are allowed to snap up tickets for the Michelle Obama gig and resell them for 2 grand? That means the chances of getting affordable tickets by honest means are nil.”

“Southbank Centre. Ticket touts selling Michelle Obama tickets on Viagogo for £2,000. This is outrageous! Southbank Centre please take action!” another tweeted.

Southbank Centre has responded to the resale of tickets.

In a statement, it said: “We have asked Viagogo to remove the tickets available on their site. Tickets bought from unauthorised third parties will be cancelled and invalid for entry.”

Some suggested that a much larger venue should have been chosen for the event.

“There’s 51 thousand people ahead of me in the online queue for Michelle Obama x Chimamanda Adichie. They really should have just booked out Wembley Stadium tbh,” writer JJ Bola tweeted.

Others, not prepared to leave things to chance, took drastic measures to increase their chances of securing tickets.

“A 5am wake up time + queuing at the Southbank Centre for the 3 hours (in the cold) + phone support from friends and work colleagues + a praying mother and the good grace of God = 2 tickets to Michelle Obama!” creative Matilda Egere-Cooper tweeted.

A selection of tickets were made available exclusively to Southbank Centre members in a presale yesterday. A two ticket per person limit was imposed by Southbank Centre.
