How Fatima The Dwaf Instagram Model Has Overcome Cruel Bullies To Build A Budding Career

“If I was to have a child like Fatima, I would abort it” is the worst comment Fatima Timbo has ever had to deal with.

21-year old Fatima is a Finance Trainee, YouTuber and model. She was born with Achondroplasia, a bone growth condition that causes disproportionate dwarfism.

According to Healthline, Dwarfism is defined as a condition of short stature as an adult. People with achondroplasia are short in stature with a normal sized torso and short limbs. It’s the most common type of disproportionate dwarfism.

Fatima was a very confident and playful child but as she grew up, she began to notice she was quite different from other people. She was bullied for her condition and one of the things she had to deal with was being called hurtful names.

“When I was like in year 8, I wasn’t comfortable with myself. I had low self-esteem. I was just a people pleaser because I want people to like me,” Fatima told Brut.

Spending time watching motivational videos got Fatima to start believing in herself. She began to do things that she would not normally do, like going for an audition for people with visible difference. That decision changed her life. Fatima has become a popular body positive runway model.

“When I walk down the runway, I feel liberated. I feel amazing. I feel confident because people are watching me and they’re thinking, ‘wow, this girl’s got confidence…” she said.

Fatima thinks that the models that walk the runways are not exact representative of how people look in real life.

“Not everyone is tall and that’s not representative. Okay, it might be representative to the tall community but it’s not representative of the whole beauty community. The typical model is not that representative because real people are small, medium height, extremely tall, plus size.. all sorts, we’re all different shapes and sizes and I feel that models should represent that.”

Fatima wants to inspire people to know that anyone can be beautiful.

“Whatever shape you are, whatever size you are, whatever colour you are, whatever sexuality you are, I think everybody is beautiful in their own way and not enough people have been told that.”
