A 42-year-old building contractor, Isaac Yakubu, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, for
allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 11-year-old daughter.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court which gave the order, said Yakubu should remain behind bars pending advice from the State Director
of Public Prosecutions.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the DPP.
Yakubu, who resides at 4, Mustapha Adeleke St., Abule -Odu, Egbeda, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of defilement.
The accused, Police Prosecutor Christopher John said committed the offence on July 18 at his residence.
John said the victim’s mother sent her on an errand to buy something and the girl lost the money in the process.
“When the girl was crying to the house, the accused who lives in the same compound, gave her N200 and lured her to a
nearby uncompleted building where he defiled her
“The girl cried as she went home and told her mother what happened.
“The case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested,” he told the court.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that offence carries life imprisonment.
