Alan Shearer has once again criticised Newcastle United’s lack of spending in the summer transfer market.
After Newcastle’s opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, the Match of the Day pundit didn’t take long to hit out at the club’s owner Mike Ashley, bemoaning the club’s sparse activity in the transfer window.
He said: “Rafa [Benitez] has not been given the ammunition to take the club forward. Again, Newcastle are in profit in this transfer window, around about £23m. Plus, intake for finishing 10th last year, you get about £123m.
“I think he’ll stay at the club till the end of the season and there’s no doubt about it that he will review it because at times he must think it’s an impossible job.”
Whilst Newcastle only spent £23m this summer, owner Mike Ashley still found time to buy House of Fraser, something which has annoyed Shearer.
